Build a sales funnel in Kajabi in 7 easy steps (with examples)

Female entrepreneur building a sales funnel in Kajabi

As a Kajabi template creator, one of the most common questions I get is:

"How to I set up a sales funnel in Kajabi? How do I connect everything together?"

I'm going to break it all down for you here.

Here's what we'll cover:

What is a sales funnel?

It sounds fancy, but a sales funnel is essential an intentional, specific set of steps you take a web user through with the goal of getting them to purchase your offer, service, or product.

A simple sales funnel looks like this:

Example of a simple sales funnel
  1. Sales page
  2. Checkout
  3. Thank you page

A more complex sales funnel might look like this:

Example of a complex sales funnel
  1. Facebook / Instagram Ads
  2. Freebie Opt-In
  3. Thank You Page with Tripwire
  4. Automated Email Series
  5. Sales Page
  6. Checkout with Order Bump
  7. Upsell
  8. Thank You
  9. Downsell In Follow-Up Email

What's a tripwire?

A tripwire is a paid offer that's presented to a website visitor after they've just signed up for something free. For example, if they signed up for a free lead magnet, the thank you page might be an offer to a complementary paid offer they would also be interested in.

When to use a tripwire:

If you're running ads to a free lead magnet, a tripwire can be a great way to try and recoup some of your ad costs.

What are order bumps, upsells, and downsells?

Order bumps, upsells, and downsells are all different types of offers that are presented at checkout to both help your customer achieve results faster and also increase your AOV (average order value).

When to use order bumps, upsells, and downsells:

You can add these to your sales funnel at any time. No need to start with them right off the bat. I personally only would offer a downsell in a follow-up email sequence. Also, note that you can only do order bumps seamlessly in Kajabi. If you want a complex sequence that includes a bump, upsell, or downsell, you'll need to consider another software for your checkout, like Clickfunnels or Thrivecart.

Order Bumps

Order bumps are offers that are presented to customers before they complete their purchase, usually on the checkout page. They often complement the main product. Order bumps are a good option for lower-value offers that don't require much thought before purchase.

Upsells

Upsells are offers that are presented to customers after they have completed their purchase. Upsells are a good option for higher-value offers that require more warming up.

Downsells

Downsells are often presented after an initial offer as a lower-cost alternative to achieve a similar result.

What pages do you need in Kajabi for a simple sales funnel?

As you saw above, a sales funnel can get pretty complex, but for this purpose, I'm going to show you how to set up a very simple sales funnel in Kajabi.

Sales Page

At the bare minimum, you only need a sales page. We have awesome templates you can check out here.

Checkout Page

There is a checkout page in Kajabi for each offer you create and you'll want to customize this for sure, but it's already in there by default and not something you need to 'create' per say.

Thank You Page

The thank you page is really optional, but I recommend it. You could simply redirect to your customer's product library upon purchase or use a custom thank you message. But creating your own thank you page will feel more branded and more personal. It will also allow you to tailor that step of the customer experience and you can use this page to guide people to the next step you'd like them to take.

You can also check out our awesome Kajabi thank you page templates here.

How do you connect everything in Kajabi?

There are 2 ways you can set up sales funnels in Kajabi:

  1. Use their funnels feature
  2. Just link everything together

Kajabi's Funnels Feature

I personally don't like Kajabi's funnels feature, I don't use it, and I don't recommend it for others either. You don't need to use this to set up a sales funnel, and I find that it causes more confusion for people than anything. You also can't create pages using templates in the Funnels feature.

So, in this article, I will teach you how to set up a sales funnel by simply linking everything together.

Linking Everything Together to Create Your Sales Funnel

1. Create your product.

2. Create an offer for your product.

3. Customize your offer checkout page.

4. Create your sales page.

5. Link your sales page buttons to your offer checkout.

6. Create your thank you page.

7. Set your offer to redirect to your thank you page upon purchase.
